Cohort 13

Project Title

Impactful Tools that improve Team Communications.

Aim

Cohort 13 developed a short training resource to improve relationships and communication within teams. Participants also created a pre and post survey to gauge the impact of the training.  The training resource was piloted in two Care Homes with positive responses.

Description

Participants used the MHL 'Bake Off' tool to enrich the Appreciative Inquiry process aligned with PDSA (Plan, Do, Study, Act).  The participants identified that staff would benefit from communication development and a richer understanding of relationship-centred care.  The participants created a training resource that could be used in a variety of healthcare settings.  This resource used a range of MHL tools  and approaches and included group and individual activities.

Which MHL Tools were used?

  • Relationship Map
  • Image Cards
  • Language Poster
  • Bake-Off

Changes Implemented

Staff felt better equipped to have professional yet meaningful conversations across the team.  They recognised that by building relationships they could better understand each others perspectives.  They identified the impact language can have on team culture and developed new ways to build on this.

Note: Training Resource available to MHL Associates on request.

I feel I have changed as a leader in the way I listen. I connect better emotionally, staying with the emotion and holding back from moving on too quickly. I always think about having caring conversation as it helps when new residents are admitted and engaging with families.
